Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and attendees we have been able to contribute over $1.3 million back to the community, vocational, scholarship and international projects. The Club donates to a variety of local charities including Meals on Wheels, the YMCA, The Yorba Linda Veterans Association and The Boys & Girls Club of Placentia-Brea–Yorba Linda. We have also provided more than $185,000 in grants to private and public elementary & middle school teachers in the Placentia–Yorba Linda Unified School District through our Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club Education Fund. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
Rotary is an organization of business, professional and community leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. It is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or political preference. There are 33,976 clubs and over 1.22 million members worldwide.
The world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on February 23, 1905 by Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth. The name “Rotary” derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members’ offices.
Rotary’s popularity spread throughout the United States in the decade that followed; clubs were chartered from San Francisco to New York. By 1921, Rotary clubs had been formed on six continents, and the organization adopted the name Rotary International a year later. Rotarians work to meet the changing needs of society, expanding its service efforts to address such pressing issues as environmental degradation, illiteracy, world hunger and children at risk. The organization’s dedication to this ideal is best expressed in its principal motto: Service Above Self.
The Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club is in District 5320, which has 46 clubs with a total membership of over 2,140 Rotarians. The YL Sunrise Rotary Club was chartered on, May 16, 1986 and currently has 50 members who meet weekly. It is the club’s annual fundraiser that allows Rotary to make a difference.
